Since the dawn of time love has been one of the things that both brought people together but also tore countries, towns and families apart... We are brought up to believe that love is one of the things that makes the world go round... We are shown from an early age that love is intertwined in almost everything we do... As young girls we fantasies of our prince charming coming to rescue us from the thing that we call life, Whether you have the perfect life or one that you wish to escape from. Even the story books that we read to our children idolize love. For example the little puppy gets lost and cant find his mother but its the love of that puppy to his mother that leads him back and to her.
Love gets put so high on a pedestal that it even has its own day, we call it Valentines day. But do you know the real meaning of valentines day ? Well i will tell you, the origin of Valentine's Day, or Saint Valentine's Day, comes from the life and death of a Christian martyr. According to author Martha Zimmerman, the date traditionally celebrated as St. Valentine's Day finds it origin in the Roman festival of romance called Lupercalia, when the gods Juno and Pan were honored. It was a fertility festival or a lover's holiday looking forward to the return of Spring. In the fifth century, in an attempt to abolish the pagan festival, Pope Gelasius changed Lupercalia and its February 15 date to February 14 and called it Saint Valentine's Day. Even though the names and the date were changed, the emphasis continued to be on love. But some how over the years it became about red roses, candy in heart- shaped boxes, mushy valentines, and winged cherubs flying about shooting starry-eyed lovers with arrows.
Some say that it is the love of one to another that gives you the ability to feel when a love one is lost. That it is the love of a mother to a child that can heal any wound no matter what it is. But does it always have a happy ending? In the books, movies ,shows and even songs that we hear about love although the person may go threw hell and back they always end up happy and in there love ones arms in the end. But does this happen in real life? Yes some can argue that they have a friend of a friend who's grandparents have been married for 70 years and are as happy now as they were when they first met but how often does that really happen?
